Empowering You to Achieve Happiness

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

I practice treatment utilizing and pulling from principals of DBT therapy.  I have received extensive supervision, on-site training, and continuing education trainings in relation to DBT.  I believe it is important to uphold fidelity to DBT as outlined by Dr Marsha Linehan and work to effectively adhere to her standards of practice.

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of therapy that helps people with emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness.

DBT was originally developed to treat borderline personality disorder, but it has since been shown to be effective in treating a variety of other mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and eating disorders.  If you are struggling with your mental health, DBT therapy can help you learn the skills you need to live a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

  • Improved emotional regulation: DBT can help you learn how to identify and express your emotions in a healthy way. This can lead to less emotional distress and more positive relationships.
  • Reduced self-harm and suicidal behavior: DBT can help you develop coping mechanisms for dealing with difficult emotions without resorting to self-harm or suicide.
  • Improved interpersonal skills: DBT can help you learn how to communicate effectively and get your needs met in a healthy way. This can lead to more satisfying relationships with family, friends, and romantic partners.
  • Increased quality of life: DBT can help you improve your overall quality of life by reducing emotional distress, improving your relationships, and increasing your sense of self-worth.

Internal Family Systems

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as a complex system of interconnected parts, or "parts." These parts can be thought of as different aspects of ourselves, each with unique perspectives, emotions, and desires.

In IFS therapy, we work together to explore these parts and their relationships with one another. By understanding and honoring each part, we can begin to heal internal conflicts and develop a more integrated sense of self.

How IFS is Incorporated into Therapy:

  • Identifying Parts: We'll work together to identify the different parts within you, such as the "protector," the "critic," or the "inner child."
  • Understanding Relationships: We'll explore the dynamics between these parts, understanding how they interact and impact your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
  • Healing Internal Conflicts: By addressing the underlying needs and emotions of each part, we can help resolve internal conflicts and create a more harmonious system.
  • Developing a Self-Led Life: The goal of IFS is to help you develop a strong, self-led sense of self, capable of navigating life's challenges with greater ease and resilience.
